Instructions and Help about Eddservices.edd.ca.gov login

Many workers simply cannot afford to take unpaid leave when they have to care for a new baby or another family member. Even though this puts their family's health and well-being at risk, we have state and federal laws that allow workers to take time off for an illness, a family member's illness, or to bond with a new child. While these laws guarantee that workers do not lose their jobs or benefits during the leave, most of the time is unpaid. Family leaves should be affordable. In California, we have the state disability insurance program which provides income for workers while they are on the SDI program. It is funded by employee payroll deductions, and almost all California employees contribute to this program. So, if you contribute to this program, you should be able to use it when you need it the most. The disability insurance program, or the DI program, provides income for workers when they are unable to work due to a non-work-related injury or illness, pregnancy, or childbirth. The paid family leave program, or the PFL program, provides income to workers when they need to take time off to care for a seriously ill child, parent, spouse, or registered domestic partner, or to bond with a new child. It's important that more Californians become aware of and use the DI and PFL programs for two reasons. Firstly, these programs help make family leave affordable. Secondly, these programs are entirely funded by employee contributions, so workers should be able to use them when they need them the most. Workers should not have to choose between their family's economic security and health and well-being. The DI and PFL programs protect California workers from having to make that choice.
